Fraud? Email about winning a lottery from yahoo?

I red'd an emal from over in the uk stating that I won a lottery amt of $1,200,000.00 and they want my bank acct info so they can of course send this to my acct. They say they are a part of Yahoo and Messenger. Where can this be reported or checked out. I seems very real. I can forward it to you if needed. Sincerely Rebecca Vanderhoof

There is no Yahoo! Lottery, and Yahoo would never send you information about a contest you never entered.

That鈥檚 the definition of unsolicited: you never asked for it. It showed up out of nowhere. The message probably also displays two other hallmarks of fraud emails: it appears to be official (with company logos, even links), and it demands urgent action 鈥渢o claim your prize鈥? or something similar.

If you鈥檝e received a message like 鈥淔inal Notification: Yahoo! Mail Winner!鈥?or 鈥淵our Email Address Has Won $XX million鈥? it鈥檚 a scam.

Don鈥檛 reply to the email, don鈥檛 click on any links in it, and never divulge any personal information. Instead, click Spam.

Yahoo! Mail will never request personal information in an unsolicited email.

If you get an email that looks like it鈥檚 from Yahoo! but tells you you鈥檙e the winner of a Yahoo! Lottery or other contest 鈥?and it asks you to email personal information to claim a cash prize or reward 鈥?click Spam to dispose of it. You can also forward the suspicious email to mail-spoof@cc.yahoo-inc.com.

"Phishing" is a play on the word "fishing" 鈥?because perpetrators are "fishing" for your private information or trying to find ways to trick you into sending them money. Don鈥檛 be fooled! These deceptive emails are used to commit identity theft, charge your credit cards, empty your bank accounts, read your email, and lock you out of your online account by changing your password.

Most of the time if you get something from a country that you are not from then its spam. Also if you did not enter that lottery then its probaly spam.

lmfao WOW...a Bot promoting a virus e-mail. That's amazing!

its a scam
i got that email too and got one frmo google as well they both claims that the recipient has won money in an international lottery. The email is an attempt to initiate a dialogue with potential victims and subsequently trick them into sending money to the scammers responsible.. there is no yahoo lottery nor yahoo money
