How Can I Keep My Computer Safe?

How Can I Keep My Computer Safe?

AVG Has A Free Antivirus And A Free Spyware Program That Works Fine For Me!

Use a good firewall and a good virus/spyware scanner. I use
Norton. It may cost a few bucks but the protection for my
Dell Inspiron has been 100%.

Ok

First you need to start with a good anti-virus software (Norton 360, AVG, Mcafee), next i would recommend keeping you OS (operating system) up to date, I would defiantly advise getting spyware doctor free edition http://www.pctools.com/spyware-doctor/)

aswell as software, also dont accept files from unknown sources, stay on ligitimate websites....DEFINATLY do NOT visit any free serial code sites

and keep a copy of a backup after you have installed these programmes, makesure it is on a seperate disk.

aditional, run scans often

You need at least three layers of security: protection against viruses, protection against spyware, and protection against hackers.

First off, anti-virus software. I recommend Avast anti-virus. It's free, but requires registration for one year of use. But it's very good. I use it on my installations of Vista and XP, and they update the virus definitions at least every other day- usually, they update every day.

Next, anti-spyware software. You want at least two layers here, since no one program catches everything. I recommend Spybot Search and Destroy, and Ad-Aware.

Third, firewalls. The Windows firewall doesn't do squat. I recommend ZoneAlarm's free firewall. If possible, put your computer behind a hardware firewall, such as a router provides.

An optional layer would be rootkit detection. Rootkits are not as widespread as viruses, but they are sneakier, and are harder to get rid of.

Another thing: stop using Internet Explorer, and use Mozilla Firefox. Internet Explorer has ActiveX, which many viruses exploit to get into your computer. Firefox doesn't have ActiveX, and you can install plugins and themes for it. And it's all free, too!

Make sure that you have a good anti virus and anti spy ware program installed on your computer.
AVG Anti virus and McAfee virus scan are supposed to help a lot.check out http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-sAFtLsc8e... for more details.

Zone Alarm security suite works good.
