My computer is infected? Good anti-virus software?

I have been running regular scans with SuperAntiSpyware and AVG, which find up to 100 threats each time, going by the name of:

Trojan.Unclassified/AffiliateBundle
Trojan.Winfixer
Trojan.Unclassified/Out-Variant
Adware.Tracking Cookie
Trojan.Downloader-Gen/RetAd

I also remember seeing Vundo or something like that on one of my scans.

Does anyone know a good free anti-virus software to get rid of these for good? I get rid of them with SuperAntiSpyware and AVG, but it seems that my computer isn't completely clean after this, and they seem to keep coming back.

I do not visit any dodgy websites or anything, and I'm not sure where they have come from.

Seriously, don't even get me started on norton or mcafee. I really can't believe people still posts those on here and actually believe it.

Anyway, NOD32 is the best. Kaspersky is good, but more expensive.

Quite honestly, though, with those found threats that you posted you are going to need to format and reinstall. Sorry.

norton anti-virus is good

try AVG free download

panda anti virus is the best i have ever had
i have had norton AVGbut i have found panda
the best

Hello,
The best Anti-Virus for free is Avira AntiVir & the best of all is Kaspersky.

http://usa.kaspersky.com/
http://www.free-av.com/

avg free addition and avast are both availeble free just type in to your search engine, they both work well and have free updates.
good look

AVG (Formerly ewido) for removal & quarantine. It works great + it's free :)

Hijackthis as well for logs.

First try re-running your scans in Safe Mode. To get into Safe Mode, reboot and then either hold down or tap the F8 key repeatedly while the computer is starting up.

Also look at the actual file locations. If they indicate a file path of System Volume Information then chances are that Malware may still be lurking in your system restore volumes so it would be in your best interests to disable system restore, reboot then re-enable system restore when you log back on. What this does is protects you from reloading the malware should you ever need to do a system restore.

Many anti-virus products cannot remove viruses from system restore thus the reason for clearing out possible infected points. For reference to this, see the link below:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorial...

There are several ways to disable system restore but the easiest is to go to Control Panel, System, System Restore tab and tick the box to "Turn off system restore on all drives", click Apply, click OK and reboot. Follow the same steps when you log back on to re-enable system restore by removing the tickmark.

For reasons System Restore should disabled and re-enabled after and not before malware removal, see the webpage below:
http://msmvps.com/blogs/spywaresucks/arc...

If running the scans in Safe Mode and clearing out old system restore points don't help and you are still infected, you may want to consider joining a tech group that specializes in providing manual instructions on malware eradication.

It sounds to me like you need a better firewall to tell you when viruses are connecting to the web to bring their friends. I recommend Comodo Firewall Pro - free, fast, and user friendly. It'll block random attempts that viruses make to get on your computer and block ones already on there from calling in more.

Put them is the virus Vault, its a component on the free avg. do not use norton my friend has many problems from this.

You should go here and read and follow the directions for cleaning out your system.

Some of the items you mention can be very difficult to remove and may require specialized programs to remove them.
You will also need to get rid of your Restore points so make sure you have all your personal data backed up and be prepared to do a reinstall in case anything goes haywire.

Nortan 360 is the best!!!

norton anti virus

Been there, I hadt his same problem you did. I tired everything from Norton Antivirus, Systemworks just about anything and nothiing worked. What I would recommend is to do the following, do you still have the 4 recovery disc that came with the computer when you bought it? If you do you can restart it, and this is very easy to do when you turn on the computer on the opening screen click where it says "system recovery" that is if you have the 4 recovery disc. That was my mistake because I lost them and so I had had to do was.....take it to circuit city to the Firedogs and they checked it, (they h=charge 60 dollars just to check it, if you have warranty with them it will be free. Anyway what they ended up doing was to order me the 4 recovery disc and did that themselves and it worked big time. hope this helps, if you need more info I can try and help you.

Keep all the eggs in a single basket .........all you need is to download kaspersky anti-virus+internet security, adware, spyware and every single solution can be found here ..........

remember this is the full & free version not trial one .....

trial can be downloaded from kaspersky.com

kaspersky is the best
all others are rubbish

No anti-virus software will be able to find everything, having said that I also use AVG, but I back it up with ClamWin, and chase it with SpyBot, haven't had a problem in 10 yrs.

Winfixer = Vundo trojan.

You need a tool to remove Vundo.

How To Remove Winfixer / Virtumonde / Msevents / Trojan.vundo.b

This is not a dodgy website.

WOW thats really bad. Adware.Tracking Cookie is not a harmful virus by the way.

AVG is fine so i leave that and I update it before i scan or if your not happy with it, download pctools anti-virus from http://www.pctools.com/ and update it. Its detection rate is very good that I would recommend it to you.

SuperAntiSpyware seems to suck i guess so I would recommend spyware doctor which you can download from http://pack.google.co.uk and do a full scan to the computer.

To really remove viruses like that, what I would do is turn off your system restore and I would use the computer is safe mode by holding f8 at the boot screen.

How to turn off system restore.

Windows Vista: Click "computer" and click "system properties" and a window should come up. At the left tabs click "System Protection". Once that comes up, untick all of them and click ok/apply.

Windows XP: Click "My Computer" and right click properties on the white spaces and your computer information should come up. Then go to "system restore" tab and tick "turn off system restore" then press ok.

You might also want to do disk cleanup before you start. Most viruses are found in temporary files and temporary internet files.

Now do a full scan and get rid of the viruses, once you do that. restart your computer. This will start your computer normally.

Good luck.

P.S: Try doing it in normal mode at first, if no luck, go to safe mode

Look, no anti-virus software is likely going to assist with correcting your computer problems. There is a distinctive difference between a virus, and malware / spyware. While some anti-virus programs will offer limited spyware protection, your best defense against these treats is to use good computing habits and only visit websites of quality that can be trusted. Downloading "free" software or media from any place on the net will guarantee an infection of some kind. You may also want to install AdAware. This is one of the best known software packages designed to deal with malicious software threats.

You state that you do not visit "dodgy" websites. In fact, you do. Because this is the only place you can get the kind of infections your computer has. You may want to seriously reconsider what justifies a "dodgy" website, and learn how to properly evaluate the trusted contents of a website. If you were truly visiting websites of quality, your computer would not be having these problems. Unlike a virus, spyware cannot be swapped in email, nor is it stored on removable media for distribution. These types of threats are only an issue when visiting poor meaning websites.

It's also worth noting that a Trojan is very difficult to remove and can only be done by those who are familiar with this practice. Sure, you can get rid of them, but if done incorrectly, your computer will not function properly. What you have may be considered a very serious infection and will not be easy to correct.

The best anti-virus software is not free. Here are some fee based options, though they are discounted for a limited time:

Norton Anti-Virus - http://www.software-dod.com/2nd-chance-n...

BitDefender Anti-Virus - http://www.software-dod.com/2nd-chance-b...

Computer Associates Anti-Virus - http://www.software-dod.com/2nd-chance-c...

Goodluck

Ad Aware, Spy bot - search and destroy,Spy ware Doctor are some good spy ware removers. AVG Anti virus and McAfee virus scan are also supposed to help a lot.check out http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-sAFtLsc8e... for more details.
