Change my windows from ME to XP?

is this possible? i dont want to change my computer i just want to change my windows from windows ME to XP. if this is possible? what would happen to my printer and scanner settings etc because i have installation disks for them etc.

how do i go around changing my windows?

It would be possible to upgrade from ME to XP, but why not go for Vista if your system can handle it?

The printers and scanners should still work fine. The drivers from your CD's may need to be updated after installing XP - but they should work fine.

If you do get XP remember to also get the Service Pack 2 for it, as this is the most updated version

Hi. Should be fine. ME has a lot of buggy things wrong with it. Add more RAM if you can. Download new drivers from the printer and scanner maker's website, but Win XP has many generic drivers.

You need retail or upgrade version of XP to retain the programs installed, but as XP is a 32bit OS and ME is 16bit, all the hardware drivers will need reinstalling. Not to mention that some programs wont work afterward, and if teh PC is ME based, its old, so installing XP may slow it down if the PC is not powerful enough to run it.

your scanner and printer should work fine with XP,as you install XP i checks your system and will let you know if things like that wont work

I would go against a straight upgrade from ME to XP. Windows ME is still based on the old file format FAT while XP is based on the NTFS format which is more secure and stable. Upgrading ME to XP without changing file format system would not maximize XPs potential.

I would recommend a full format or a new Hard drive for your new system. A lot of ME programs would not be compatible with windows XP. so if you have important files and would need them intact dual boot instead.

Be aware that there would be a marginal loss of software when upgrading specially if the software you had utilizes the old system folder of your wwindows. from your post I sense that you were thinking of upgrading a fully functional ME machine to XP.

very simple. insert xp disk into cd rom,install. you likely wont need the drivers for your printer an scanner if their older ones,as xp will have drivers for them

it depends on the computer you have. It shouldnt be to hard, and you will be able to get the drivers for your printer and scanner to work easily

install another hard drive and install xp to that one giving you dual boot system, you can then go back to M.E. if it doesn't work well for you.

just telling you.. don't go vista! vista is appearantly worse than xp.. anyways.. you could get a new computer but if its an old tower i would get a new one but if its a fairly new tower i would go to a computer shop and ask them 2 upgrade it 2 xp and yea..

Yes, you can change.

But, it is recommended that you upgrade the operating system and then install the drivers of printers.
