Installation help for my scanner?

My scanner should be delivered soon at my house. The thing is, I need help BEFOREHAND with installing it. I know that it comes with an installation CD and manual but I have read reviews saying that I need to download the software from the company's website PRIOR to inserting the usb cable in my computer hub. PLEASE NOTE: I have VISTA home premium and the last time that I tried hooking an hp all in one scanner/copier/printer it wouldn't recognize it at all, even after I installed the software from the website, which was after the CD was installed and the usb plugged in. So please, if anyone can give me step by step instructions on what I need to do before I install the CD or plug in the usb cable then please do so! Thanks!

I have a desktop. I don't understand, with as many hubs as I have and with the purpose of the usb cable, why it wouldn't recognize it. I don't want to have to spend money on more stuff to add to my computer. No offense, I just don't understand.

Ok, so it's a good idea to download software from the Canon site first and then installing the CD and following it's instructions from there?

it mentions that the drivers are for Vista also...
so you should not have any issues...
you dont need to worry about downloading any driver...
just insert the Cd and follow the steps given to you...

Its a good idea to install the software first. If you are installing the software and you need to plug in the hardware, it will let you know.

You should not use a USB hub though, they are not high speed and some hardware wont be recognized using them.

If you need more USB ports than are supplied on-board, its a good idea to get an add-on USB PCI card. Unless you are using a laptop.

I don't know about Canons, but with HPs, if you plug in the USB cable before the install program tells you to plug it in, the computer won't ever find the scanner, in which case you have to disconnect the USB cable, uninstall the drivers, restart the PC, and start over.

If the reviews say download the software from Canon first, it's probably an upgrade of what comes on the CD. So download it, then run the install program, and only then connect the cable to the PC (or hub).
