Do companies still uses Visual Basic 6.0?

I was learning it in college and my professor told me that Microsoft stopped supporting it. Is it still worth learning or should I move on to VB.net?

A lot of companies still used VB6 because of the legacy issues. New windows like Vista still support VB6.

no...it s not so, vb is still used in many firms, but at the same there is no loss, if u learn vb.net,

learning upcoming tech., s always good

Some companies still use it but it's kind of like COBOL: It's still around because they have a legacy system written in it and it would require to much time and effort to change it.

If it's something you're interested in learn .net. Also, from what I've gathered it seems like any .net project requires the knowledge of more than one technology so make sure you understand how .net works as a whole as well.

VB 6 is still very much alive in the workplace, despite reaching it's of if life cycle.

It would be a good idea to learn both.

Well, if you're given the chance to switch to VB.Net... i'd say that a very good opportunity for you... yes it's true that Microsoft stopped supporting VB 6.0 already but then some companies still use it (specially if their existing system is written in VB 6.0).

Here in the philippines VB 6.0 is really common...

In the US, you'll find more work to revamp systems to .NET from VB6, than to work in VB6.

An understanding of VB6 goes well in the industry, but if you just learn .NET to a decent understanding, you'll be able to roll over applications. The only things I think you miss out on when NOT learning VB6 is the wonderful Win32API which has been MOSTLY replaced by the .NET framework.

I know around hiring time, VB.NET or C# is absolutely required... VB6 is a plus. Reverse that and it equals never getting a call back.
