Graphic Designer raise?

I work for an IT company in Dayton Ohio. I currently make 15.00 oer hour (31,200 a year). My review will be at 11:45 and they gave me a sheet saying what we will cover during it. The sheet says i will be given a raise to 16.50 per hour (34,320 a year). Is this a good raise? If not how do i go about asking for more? Ive got above average and exceptional written all over my review papers, so I want to make sure i am being taken care of fairly.

the economy is in a toilet right now. so I'd say the raise wasn't even 3% (did i check the math right?) anyway... your lucky you even got a raise. many companies are forced to say - i'm sorry, there's just no room for a raise. we'll try for bonus or something to compensate this year. as far as asking for more money - if you've already had the meeting you've waited to late. if you haven't had the meeting try your best to negotiate.. ok maybe i work a few less hours at the office or flex time etc...

i would suggest reviewing salary websites.. like salary.com to see what the average for your experience and job is.. I am not sure what your experience is but it seems that for dayton your low end of the spectrum is 35k.. while the upper end is 57k, and the middle falls around 40ish-k..

With out knowing your level of education, experience, and so forth I would say that is a fairly rout raise....

As for asking for more money.. well I would look at your work, your background, and where you want to go, and prepare you case for your boss. Don't shoot the moon and go for 50k, but what you think you are entitled too... Don't get snarky or assholish with your boss, and do remember that the US economy is a bit shaky so money might be tight... but if you boss is willing carve out 30 minutes of their time to hear your case for a raise then you have a decent shot at getting a bit more..
