I'm having problems making a calculator with Javascript?

I have the image all ready, but I'm having problems getting far enough that the button for '1' will actually put '1' in the display...
I pretty much have no idea what I'm doing here. I missed a couple of days of class, and now I'm screwed...

Anyone willing to give me a hand?
