SQL Syntax (Empty Square Brackets)?

What does it mean in SQL when there is something like:

WHERE name=[]

Does that mean where name is null, or where name is anything?

I know what square brackets denote, what does it mean when they are empty?

the brackets can mean a lot of things.. here's a forum post that highlights the possible meanings of brackets:

http://www.dreamincode.net/forums/showto...

i tend to use them for explicit naming of an object.. like if for some reason managment wants a reserved word as a column name i am forced to use brackets.
