In what programming languages are games like FIFA 2008, Call of Duty 4 created?

Although I don't know exactly what languages are being used, here's some food for thought.

The games you list are multi-platform (especially in the case of FIFA 2008). When a piece of software (which is all a game is) spans multiple platforms (especially multiple competitors), you can safely bet that the underlying game engine is written in something elementary which is easily portable from one platform to the next. It's like finding the lowest common denominator.

What's the first thing that comes to mind? C. (Or some variation of it.)

Note that although a game may be written primarily in C, it could have conditions built into it which allow it to take advantage of features that one platform has that another platform does not have. However, for the sake of answering your core question, the game is still in C.

Most of the time in C/C++ with DirectX(PC, Xbox360) or opengl(eg PS2, PS3).
