Put main site in root of website?

I have my own website and several blogs all of which are hosted by me. The website is written in static html.
The main site is in the root of the website and the blogs are sub-directories. The root being public_html.
I'd like to change the main site into a dynamic site. Therefore, am I right in putting all the files in public_html folder and not it's own folder?
I don't know if I'm making any sense.

Putting the main site in public_html one way to do it.

But assuming that your web server is an AMP, putting the main site in public_html/folder and: 1) using htaccess or 2) using a redirect PHP script is another way.

I prefer the second way because compared to the first, it keeps my file system neater.
