Whats the difference between these two methods?

I am planning on installing phpMyAdmin, MySQL, PHP 5, and Apache. i was wondering what the difference is between installing these seperately using the guides on the internet versus installing a software package such as Xampp or AppServ to automate the whole process. I realize that installing a software package makes it easier and quicker but what are the other pros and cons to using the two methods.

Everything separate:
pros
-you choose what versions
-you configure everything yourself
-in the end, you'll know more about them
cons
-more hassle
-can be time consuming
-you configure everything yourself

Package deal:
pros
-easier
-quicker
-not as much configuration to do
cons
-not as much configuration to do
-not as much control over the process
-can't really choose individual versions

If you use one of the package deals, it doesn't mean that you don't have the same level of control that's available installing everything seperately. Maybe, during the installation process you wouldn't have such control, but everything is just as configurable afterwards.

If you install a bundled package, as you said, all of the compenents already work together. Also, the packages often have better support than the separate applications.
