write java programs..i understand how to start it but i get stuck when i have to prompt the user to do stuff like the calculations, how can i do that...thanks

Well programming language as such is not a difficult thing to learn. Where things get a little tricky are the algorithms that we have to use to implement the problem. Programming language is nothing but a bunch of rules (called syntax) which you would have to follow to implement a logic.
So I would suggest, you to write down your logic for the program first, once your satisfied with it, you can start coding them. Often we tend to criss cross between logic and syntax while writing programs, hence the complexity
