Photoshop to Illustrator cut-outs?

I would like to get a picture from photoshop and transfer it to Illustrator but when I do I keep getting a white background how do I cut the image out of photoshop and place it in Illustrator without the white background.

Remove the background in Photoshop, then try saving it as a transparent PNG.

Try erasing the background, copy the image, then go to illustrator and paste it.

do it in illustrator... create a vector mask to cover up the background. I think Shellie hall covers this in her free class at xtrain
