VLC can't able to play .avi file !!!?

I have a file named "Beowulf 2007 [Eng] XviD DVD Screener [1337mbit]". Its an AVI file but when i played it in VLC, VLC can't able to play this file. Its saying to download codec from http://codec.uploadvid.net
but i can't able to even download it because its something different site
Its very strange because i think VLC can run any type of file
can anyone plz help me how can i see that movie

First, you need to make sure that the filename has the extension of .avi at the end of it. You listed the file without ANY extension on it. Video players don't usually know what format it is.

Second, can you play this video in another player? If no, then it's probably a fake or corrupted file. If yes, then you may have a corrupted VLC player.

Third, the movie may actually be formatted in a non-standard codec that you WILL need to download and install. This is true for any player, not just VLC.

Lastley, you don't mention if you're using Windoze or Linxu or what os you're using.
