Why do people add people they don't know to myspace?

Is it a popularity thing? Why does having tousands of peeps on your myspace make you look cool? I only have 11 peeps.. does that make me look lame?

but its also weird to have 1,000,000's of people you don't know

i only have 32 and thats because they all go to my school
and i actually know them

It doesn't make you look lame. As long as you know they're you're true friends or people who are close to you. People add people they don't know because they probably want to be popular (cool) or TRY to meet new people. People on myspace could just be like any random people walking down the street. The only thing is that it's not face to face. You shouldn't feel ashamed of only 11 people you have. As long as you know they're special to you and that you'd rather have real than fake friends. =) I applaud you for that.

Haha. It is a popularity thing, if you have more friends you look more popular...

no poeple add people they dont know like famous people because they have no friends. but they might add layout myspaces for cool layouts but i think they feel cool with all them friends

for some people its trying to look kewl
for some they r trying to make friends by meeting ppl online(i do dat alot)
or they w4w(whore4whore,they promote ppl and ppl add em for popularity)

I think it could be one of the following reasons:
- the person wishes to seem popular
- the person knows a lot of people of which may have other friends that also add that person
- the person simply does not care who gets added to their friend list

Why anyone would want to keep adding people on their myspace is a completely personal reason of which stems of how they want to appear or how it actually is. Perhaps their friends are simply a string of people who share the same interests, share the same set of friends, or have something else in common.

In regards to yourself, I don't believe that having 11 people or fewer is a bad thing. If anything, it tells me that you have 11 people very close to you. If you were trying to 'seem' popular, you obviously would have a lot more than 11. That being said, it means that these 11 people are truly close to you. Perhaps I'm looking too much into it, but I say that you don't look lame or unpopular at all. People have very different paths in life and even having 1 friend you can truly trust is something many envy.
