Can I use an old TV for a monitor?

If so, how?

Thank you!

It depends on what connections you have. Here are the three choices:

1)
If you have S-Video connectors on both TV and computer, you can connect them.

2)
If you only have component connectors on your TV, but S-Video on your computer, you need to buy an adaptor.

3)
If you don't have S-Video on either, you must either buy a S-Video PCI-card or computer monitor

Alternate:
Some new Plasma and LCD TV's have computer monitor cable connections built in on the back. They are the blue connectors with 10-20 pins

Not really. An analog TV is very different from the simplest monitor.

No, unfortunately everything will look VERY fuzzy. It's best just to get a computer monitor.

If you have to, just buy an old big CRT monitor from a thrift store - people are actually paying money right now for people to take perfectly working monitors away, just because some people are still replacing their old equipment with the newer LCDs.

you most likely can ( video cards usually have s-video out put ports ) but the resolution would need to be either very low (older tv only have 520 lines ) or you would need to de interlace it so you would have about a maximium of 1040 lines up and down
