MSN Messenger is not notifying me when I receive a new email?

For example: messenger will say I have no emails but when I check my email inbox I'll have a bunch of unread emails. I just changed my email address and I never had this problem before with my old email address...messenger would notify me when I received a new email. If I uninstall messenger and then reinstall it do you think this might correct the issue?

My alerts and sounds are already enabled...I tried logging out and logging back in and it still won't notify me...please help

This is a common problem with Windows live/MSN messenger.

On mine the message counter will sometimes get stuck on a certain amount, for instance saying that I have 6 unread messages when in fact I have none and the windows live today window correctly displays the the amount of unread messages I have however the main messenger window does not. I've had this problem since Windows Live messenger 8 was first released as a beta in 2005 and despite reinstallations due to numerous issues that I have had the problem still remains.

I don't believe that there is a fix for this problem but contacting the Windows Live support staff at the link below may help. Otherwise you'll have to wait until Windows Live Messenger 9 is released and hope that the message counter has been updated.

the settings have changed just go into them and change them,

Maybe you just have a really messed up computer.

Sign in to MSN Messenger
Click "Tools" from menu bar
Go to "Options".
Select "Alerts and Sounds" from left hand side
Enable the box saying "Display alerts when email is received"
Hit "Apply" and ok

There you go.
