What's a good instant messenger program?

I have used msn for alot of years but lately, ever since I upgraded to the new version, I have had alot of problems with it freezing up. I do not like Yahoo or AIM so do I have any other options?

Something else I might add, The msn version I use now allows me to chat with my friends who use yahoo. If I find something else to use I would like it to have this option also.

Personally I use trillian pro. It works great, and I can use all the services on it. There are no advertisements and with the Pro version of trillian you can actually combine contacts into "meta contacts". This means that if your friend has yahoo, AIM and MSN then you can combine all their screen names into one, so you don't have to keep track of all of them separately. Enjoy!

How about windows messenger? What OS are you running?
I've got Vista which has a lot of known compatibility problems with non MS programs, and I've had no problems with it so far.

Trillian - the free version works fine with me.

Trillian will import all your friends regardless of what IM they use (AOL, ICQ, MSN, Yahoo, etc). And you can use this for chatting with all.

you can use myspace im sometimes its good it depends how your computer is

for MSN specifically you can try aMSN which is a clone of MSN made by linux programmers .. it is open source which means its free, and its snappy and fast .. never hangs with me .. and never disconnects for no reason or log me out ... here is teh link www.amsn-project.net .. you will love it .. make sure to check out teh plugins they have for it on the site :) i hope u enjoy it ...
