Is there a deference between Windows live and msn messenger?

if there is were can i download the latest version of msn free

windows live messenger IS msn
they are one of the same
you get the pink long box up to sign in to when you come online
then you right click on one of your contacts and send an immediate message
then you write in the box that comes up

THAT box IS msn

is the same thing.

It used to be called MSN messenger, but Microsoft changed the name when they made Windows Vista. So now it is called Windows Live, and it uses the same username and works just the same. You can download the latest version here: http://get.live.com/messenger/overview

I'm gonna assume you're not talking about Windows Messenger, because that is just plain awful. Anyways, MSN Messenger is the now defunct IM Application from Microsoft. Its last version was 7.5. After that Microsoft decided to switch their product names to "Windows Live"...there's a bunch of Windows Live applications out now (mail, messenger, writer...). Basically though, Windows Live Messenger is just the new name for the new versions of MSN Messenger. It has all the features of MSN plus a few more that Microsoft has added to the newer releases.

I don't think you can download MSN Messenger and use it anymore. Last time I checked Microsoft has a forced update to make you get WLM. You can try http://www.msgshit.com. When you get there, look at the top navigation bar, click on downloads, and click on MSN versions. They have every version of MSN all the way down to good ol' 1.0

To get the new WLM go to http://messenger.msn.com. You can also download the BETA from the msgshit site I put up there.

So in recap Microsoft's IM programs went:
MSN Messenger - v1.0 - v7.5
Windows Live Messenger - v8.0-v9.0 BETA
