I appear offline to my contacts, although I'm definitely online... help?!?

I'll explain it as clearly as possible:
Just got a new laptop, installed Windows Live Messenger 9 and Messenger Plus! Which is exactly the same versions as were on my old pc.
Ok, I sign into msn, everythings fine. It says I'm online, and the msn buddy is GREEN, so it's obvious i AM online and not appearing offline. When I talk to my contacts, they tell me I'm appearing offline...
So I'm sitting here, thinking everyone can see I'm online, when in actual fact, they can't. And now they have to guess when I'm online!!
I don't understand it, this has never happened previously on my old computer, and this new one is waaay better.
Any help at all? Pretty please?

Hey I fixed it!
I uninstalled msn and then reinstalled it. Now it's back to normal!
No idea what the problem was though =]
