When did msn/hotmail get taken over?

im sure it used to called somthing else?

Yes it was about 10 years ago that Microsoft purchased hotmail. The previous answer summed it up quite nice.

A little bit of trivia, When Microsoft first took over hotmail, they tried to run it using the Microsoft Exchange product, but it crashed miserably. They had to go back to the previous technology but I'm not sure what it was. (Probably Novell).

It is now called "Windows Live Mail".

I believe it happened about a year ago when Microsoft decided to brand their online products as "Live".

New look, better functionality, etc. However, I use Gmail. :)

It hasn't been taken over msn has just re-branded it.

It didn't both called the same, your email can work hotmail or msn just put the first bit of your email in try msn or hotmail they both work,

Hotmail was independent a long time ago. Then Microsoft took it over. Then they linked it with MSN. Now they're rebranding it as Windows Live Mail. Still a spammer's paradise and sucks in sooo many ways.
