Msn doesn't make a noise on my laptop....?

Got a new laptop and installed the latest msn, the sound is working on my laptop as music is playing through media player fine. On my PC downstairs, my msn account used to make the alert noises when i recieved a message or a contact logged in, but on my laptop it doesnt.... even though on the options menu, the boxes are all ticked saying the message alerts play. any ideas?

Is the music too loud to hear the sounds? Try pressing the pause button in Media Player and getting MSN to make a sound.

Are you on Windows Vista by any chance? It has an option to change the volume for specific programs only. Maybe its been set to mute MSN? Right-click the sound icon in the toolbar, and choose the mixer. It should show a few volume bars, one might have the MSN icon above/below it - check the volume/settings for MSN (it must be running) and for the whole computer. Also check the 'Wave' volume settings.

best thing to do is check your msn settings and look for audio and see if it turned on or muted

click start,click control panel,click sounds speach and audio,
click change the sound scheme,then pick what sounds you want it to play.
