Can you have 2 MSN accounts with 1 hotmail account?

This is really strange.
My friend gave me his hotmail account password. When he is on MSN, his nickname shows eg: "I am bored" from my computer screen.
When he logged out, moments later I tried to log in to his MSN account with the same hotmail address as the nick "I am bored" with the same password.
Surprisingly, it shows a different picture, with a different nickname, eg: "I am happy" on my friend's MSN.
What is happening? Why does it show 2 MSN account with the same hotmail address but different nicknames and picture?

I don't know the exact explanation of why this happens but it happens when you use a different messenger version.

I had the same issue because I had 2 computers with two different messenger versions and they had different message and avatar. When I updated the older one to the latest messenger I had the same stuff on both.
