How do I know what type of memory I have in my laptop?

Hi! I am going to buy some memory for my Dell Inspiron 8600 laptop b/c it is running slowly after cleaning it and everything. I was shopping for memory on bestbuy.com to see if I can find a better price than what Dell sells online. How do I know if my memory is a PC2700, PC3200, or other type???

go to www.crucial.com and select "scan my system". I would also do an msconfig on my pc to make the start up faster.
(Type msconfig in the run command, select the startup tab, then select disable all apply, and restart your laptop.)

If I were you though I would go to another store other than best buy (like microcenter maybe) because RAM there is exaggerately expensive. Crucial also shows you how much your RAM should cost.

You can go to http://www.crucial.com and use their tool to find out what kind of RAM (memory) your computer needs. They can even test your system and tell you what you need and have in the computer (each slot).

You can get cheap memory at http://www.newegg.com or http://www.tigerdirect.com

you'll have to open your P.C up and have a look, there should be a sticker on the memory chip itself, saying the type of ram it is.

download cpu-z and it will tell you detailed information about the memory, cpu, and motherboard.

Your Dell has a service tag number, usually letters and numbers, on a barcode on the bottom of the laptop.

Go to http://support.dell.com and click Warranty information, then parts and upgrades. You can enter your tag number and find out the kind of memory you would need to purchase, but purchase it from a site with more competitive pricing.

You may also be able to use the Analyze System feature if you are running a supported browser and operating system.
