I am going to purchase a laptop in a couple of days. What is the best brand to purchase?

I am looking to spend like $900.00 or less but I want a great computer that will run fast, good sound and has good battery life and light weight. What brand is best to buy? Thanks

Check out the cnet reviews of PCs/laptops. They also have the average price for the system.

You can buy from wherever, but I recommend getting an extended warranty. Laptops take more abuse than their desktop counterparts, and are more expensive to fix (my friend trashed a laptop because it would have been $600 to fix the video card, which was integrated on the motherboard).

You'll always hear stories about bad customer service, so pick your poison. Sure Bestbuy isn't on commission, but the grunts in blue shirts don't know too much. The Geek Squad at times doesn't know much more, unless you happen to find a computer geek. However, they aren't hired too much because they would have to be paid more than a random other teenager.

So basically research online, watch the sale papers (if you chose to buy one from a retailer), and then make an informed purchase decision without the ignorant employees [no offense, some are intelligent, but most of them are high schoolers with no idea about the department they're working in].

HP laptops are very efficient infact you can build you own on the hp website, choose a base model then upgrade and tweak it with extra features such as more memory, webcam, microphone, programs, etc. Two other pretty good brands are dell and gateway. Look for a laptop with about 1-2 DDR2 memory, over 150 gb of space, a good graphics card, and a good cd burner. most run from about 650$ to 800$

Dell has had awesome deals on their Vostro line (I just bought one a couple of weeks ago). You have to go to their website and click on "SMALL BUSINESS". The Vostro 1400 and Vostro 1500 are EXACTLY the same as the Inspiron 1420/1421 and 1520/1521 but they're black, mylar-sealed, composite material, and like $600 cheaper. You will not find more bang for your buck.

I worked for Dell tech support and I am very very happy with the Vostro 1400 I just purchased ($820 for 2 GB RAM, 1.6GHz Core2Duo, GeForce8400 video card, 2 batteries, bluetooth, etc, etc).

hp pavilion dv 9000 series with a discrete video card. the best to me.

dell

best buy is a great store and good sales staff to help u out since they are not on commission. got a toshiba 14" screen last christmas and vry happy with it but now all the laptops come with a built in cam so make sure u get that one. shud be under 700 bucks until they put on the warrantys etc. but u always have the geek squad to help u out for a small fee ..lots of luck

I have a dell and a mac. get a dell you can download things with a dell and cant on a mac

Sony is great, but bit expensive.
You may want to explore HP and make sure you bargain with them for discounts, they have good deals off and on.
Take care.

i think this is an opinion question cuz everyone has different definitions of fast and good battery life. but if ur asking me i say get an apple ibook, which is wut i have i think its perfect. but thats my opinion. hope this helped!
