Cannot Account For My Mac Hard Drive?

I have a 160GB black MacBook, but after installing Bootcamp only have around 117GB left. It says I only have abt 15GB free, but I can only account for 50GB of information. Can someone help me? Please Please. My user folder seems to be the biggest, but when I do a breakdown of the folders inside it, the amount doesnt match up either. Someone please help me!! I am seriously freaked out by the way my hard drive seems to be disappearing.

First of all you won't be able to have 160 gigs. Computers come with the system automatically using a portion of the hard drive (which is around 8 gigs).

You can get Disk Inventory X for free (http://www.derlien.com/) and it will break down exactly wants in your computer.

There may of been a file or two you've forgotten about thats there. Or sometimes I know that iTunes might double up your music by creating a new folder of everything you load into Itunes.

But check the program out and see where all your stuff is.

PS: I just read Mike's post and that maybe be the case also...so check on that first.

Keep in mind that Boot Camp divides your hard drive into two partitions, with Mac OS X residing on one and Windows on the other. Any space that got put into the Windows partition is no longer a part of the Mac side, and therefore wouldn't show up as such. Hope that helps explain at least part of the missing free space! :)

When you get chance, also run the disk utility in the utilities folder. Have it repair your permissions. Sometimes that finds missing hard drive space.
