Just sent HP laptop into Micro Center to send to HP repair? WILL PRIVACY BE KEPT?!?

I just sent a computer that I got for Christmas into Micro Center (computer repair center in Ohio) to get fixed, because something happened, and when I turned it on, the screen would not come on. I tried all of the function keys and it still stayed black while the power was on, so they said something may be wrong with the graphics card or the harddrive. WOULD EITHER OF THESE PROBLEMS HAVE TO DO WITH FILES ON MY LAPTOP? And will they have to look at the individual files on my computer? I've heard that they are NOT allowerd to look at personal files from different people, and its stole policy. But I'm not sure about HP or Micro Center? Does anyone know if they promise not to do that? I have limewire and a TON of songs from there and I'm afraid they will find it and I'm scared! Are the people who repair it allowed to look at such files? Please help!

I don't need to know if my files are going to be lost, I need to know if they will call the police because I have illegal songs!!!

Trust me - the worst that will happen is some technician will see the files and be amused. (I've actually worked on customers' files, and I forget what was on them 2 minutes after I finish working on them and move on to something else.) Unless the files are evidence of criminal activity, of course - which you shouldn't be engaging in to begin with.

But if the hard drive is bad, and they replace it, you don't get your files back - the computer will be like it was when you bought it.

will probably all be lost did you back up your files to cd?????????

you should check out this site where you can get a sony vaio laptop for free
