Which laptop is the best one to buy that's not that expensive and lasts a pretty long time?

I mostly just go online, listen to music, store things (pictures, videos, etc.), and use word processing to type up homework, etc. Pretty much the basics. Nothing complicated like games.

Just decide how big you want it to be. The 3 most common options are 13.3, 14.1, and 15.4. Look in the description page for X3100 -this means its not got a video card.

Here's a list of the cheapest processors you should consider (that I mocked up from a ranking on notebookcheck.com) starting from low to high -Intel Core2Duo start with a T and AMD Turion64 X2 start with a TL:

T5450, T5470, T5500, TL60, T5600, TL64, T7100, T7250, T8100, T7500, T8300.

Theres a nice 14.1" Sony over at bestbuy.com called Vaio VGN-CR320E for $1100 if you can afford that, but for less money, you might get a Turion X2 TL60 or TL64 processor, and look around for laptops with a 160 or 250Gb hard drive, 2Gb ram, Windows Vista Premium, and good range of periferal connections, with the more the better :)

get a kind of basic macbook. it's not really expensive and it's really good 4 school.

I got a free laptop from this site, I highly recommend it!
