If I buy a macbook in the states, will all of the Disks and DVD's work over here in the UK?

If I buy a macbook in the states, will all of the Disks and DVD's work over here in the UK?

Yes though there are a few things to consider -

the power supply - a converter is required. Can buy in the UK from Maplins, or other places - or Radio Shack in the US. Some US plugs are 2 pin, others are 3 pin. Here's a Maplin 2 Pin for upto 45watts. You'll need to ensure that you get the right 1!

Some ebay sellers have them cheaper.

Your macbook may be region protected for media playback, so that you can only play Region 1 DVD's: the UK is in region 2. There may be ways around this, to get a region free machine.

Customs may force you to pay import tax when you bring it to the UK - unless brought in by a US citizen for their personal use. If you take it out of the UK, you might be forced to pay tax at a later date. Customs will often look through your bags etc, to find purchase receipts. Giveaways that it is a US laptop will be the power cable, warranty info, instruction books etc. Consider this carefully, as import tax would push up the price of your bargain.

Otherwise, all of the software etc, will work - just as if you purchased software whilst there, and then installed to your machine over here.

Hope this helps. Good luck! Rob

Of course, dvd media for computers is the same, the only problem you may have is about power connector, in Europe uses a different power connector for the consumer electronic, but you can buy an adaptor for about 20 or 30 dollars. The media will work perfectly anywhere.

Most pc's are built in the states and shipped to uk so yes it will.

Yes, everything will still work, it's still the same computer, and the disks and DVDs are still made the same way.

Sure, but you will need another power supply module. It is not just the mains connector that needs to be changed, as US mains is 110 or 120 volts 60Hz, whilst Europe (including UK) is 230 volts 50Hz.

Yes, the only difference will be the keyboard. It will have a US keyboard as opposed to a UK keyboard.
