320GB harddrive for vista please advize make and price.?

never had a harddrive before are they easy to operate?

hi gerard
when buying a hard drive capacity is the first and most important factor and you should never settle for less than 120gb or 300gb if you plan to use your p.c for multimedia purposes(dvd, video)
the main manufacturers of internal hard drives are seagate, hitatchi and maxtor
the other factors to take into consideration are the spin speed which is normally 7200rpm(revolutions per minute) although some drives have speeds of 10,000rpm and even 15,000rpm
also the connection interface is important, theres the ide or pata interface, this is the older type and uses a 20pin ide cable/ribbon and is more common in older p.c,s
then there is the sata or serial ata interface, this uses a 4pin sata lead and is much smaller than the ide cable,it also uses a different type of power connector, however you can buy adapters for p.c without sata power connectors
finally you have the scsi type interface, these spin at the faster speeds(10,000rpm) and have faster data transfer rate and better fault tolerance, however these are more expensive than the ide and sata drives, for example a 74gb scsi hard drive can cost 拢125,also they come in odd capacity sizes(34gb,74gb)
you also have 2.5" laptop drives and external hard drives
if you are not sure of the interface you currently use then go for a ide hard drive as all motherboards will support these, but all motherboards built in the last 2 years will support the sata interface and have at least 2 free sata plugs, and you can also buy a add-on card (pci) that will give you 2 sata plugs(http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Component...
any problems let me know
good luck gerard !

yes very easy to operate, i wouldnt go over $150, you could easily get one for under 100 if you shop around.
