Is there a difference from laptops and notebooks?

If so, what is the difference?

Yes, laptops are specifically made so that you can use them on your lap (obviously)
but notebooks are not made to rest on your lap, because the machine gets too hot.

Of course, you can still use a notebook on your lap, but they are not made for it
if you put a notebook on your lap, prepared to have warm legs (and it gets uncomfortable eventually)

There are no differences between laptops and notebooks. They are interchangeable terms that mean the same thing (i.e. synonyms). But they literally refer to the same thing... a portable computer.

Maybe we can invent a difference right now - sort of like a viola vs. a violin or a cornet vs. a trumpet.

Maybe make either the laptop or notebook a little bigger and urge the companies to go with the idea.

They both mean the same thing, but there's a legal reason the big companies stopped calling their notebook computers "Laptops".

Several of the big computer manufacturers were sued in the late 1990's because they advertised "Laptop Computers" for sale...well, some wiseguy attorney decided to sue because the computers were getting so hot while sitting in your lap that it was uncomfortable to use them as "laptops". So, he claimed false advertising.

As a result, the big computer manufacturers changed the name they use to advertise them to, "Notebooks" instead of "laptops".
