My laptop battery won't charge?

I don't believe I need a new battery...because I'm not having problem with the battery holding a charge. The battery is not charging at all. I'll have the laptop plugged into the charger for hours and when I unplug it it will say that my battery is low sitting at...6%. What could be the cause of this?

Your description does not indicate whether this BATTERY is the original battery and if your Notebook PC is like less than a year old. If it is sitting at 6% charge, that means at the time either your AC adaptor wasn't plugged in or it malfunctioned, but bottomline you were running on your battery and it is almost out of juice... In fact it just happened to my wife on her DELL Work Notebook PC that is hooked to a DELL Docking Station but she knew there is a problem with the motherboard and her docking station at work doesn't work. Al of a sudden, she said lights started to blink and her DELL Notebook went into hibernation. I notice the light on the Docking Station wasn't on so we removed it and plugged the AC adapter into her Notebook PC and I had her go to CONTROL PANERL POWER and it started recharging.

1. If it is the ORIGINAL BATTERY and fairly NEW implying you are original owner and haven't owned it that long, I would first RECOMMEND you shutting down and after your Notebook PC turns off, then completely removing Battery from Notebook PC as well as AC adaptor. Next look at contacts as well as battery chamber. If you have can of compressed air gas, spray contacts wouldn't hurt but probably also isn't necessary. Next reinsert Notebook PC battery back into chamber and listen for clicking sound to insure battery is probably seated. Also reconnect AC adaptor and turn off and bootup. Then go to CONTROL PANEL, the POWER and look at meter for battery charging x% and hopefully after 5 minutes or so it should start charging from 0%.

2. Say this is a compatible battery you bought off the internet from TIGER DIRECT or a EBAY Seller in China, if it's NOT CHARGING then chances are BATTERY despite Retail Store or EBAY Seller claims, most likely is I hate to TELL YOU BAD NEWS but it is INCOMPATIBLE!

3. LESSONS LEARNED: Never Buy COMPATIBLE BATTERY and only buy genuine MANUFACTURER BATTERY bec what might have happened to you did in fact happen to me on my 1st NOTEBOOK PC, GATEWAY PENTIUM IV but that particular laptop I had experienced compatibilty memory upgrade problems before so I was sure to ask ahead of time about REFUND procedures and I simply took SNAPSHOTS of NONCHARGING 0% and SENT THEM to SELLER and then packaged INCOMPATIBLE BATTERY and eventually got refund w/o shipping costs that I paid both ways.

By the way, I now own 3 DELL Notebook PCs and have bought a used DELL Battery since then, and what I explained got satisfactory results on the 2nd GO AROUND...

My wife has the same problem on her work DELL Latitude D620 but it might have to do with her using DELL docking stations both at work and home. She claims she is too busy (she's a software developer and can't afford to part with it for even a day) so at home now she put aside the docking station... Report It

Apparently the battery won't even take a charge, which means you'd need a new one. Unless you mean you are able to use the laptop battery but it just always says it's at 6% all the time, which means maybe you need some recalibration software.
