Can i use a desktop monitor on my notebook which has a broken lcd?

one of my kids jerked laptop from the other kid, 1/2 screen turned white, other has was blue and green with crack across it, after a few weeks tried to power up now get black screen, I want to run cable from regular desktop monitor to acer aspire, can not afford lcd for laptop or another laptop, anyone know if this is possible or if I need to buy special cords? And how do I tell is the monitor is compatible?

Yes, you can. Should not need anything other than a typical cable for the monitor.

BTW, check eBay or pricwwatch.com for Laptop LCD's. We purchased and installed ours for $112.50.

Reference URL below with instructions to replace your LCD.

if your laptop has the monitor plug on it then you can hook up any monitor to it and it should work

almost any modern laptop will have a standard video out. If you have a normal monitor you should be good to go. Standard (aka analog) video is a smallish "D"shaped connector that has 15pins (3 rows of 5 staggered)

some things to watch out for. If you have an LCD monitor and the connector has a plus shaped set of pins at one end, that's called DVI and it's unlikely your laptop will have that, but not impossible.

The cable that comes with the monitor will work. If it doesn't the issue is not gonna be solved by a cable.

some laptop will only display to an external monitor if the lid is down. I believe this is not common, but it took me forever to figure that one out one day :))

but yes it is quite possible to use a laptop body as a small form "desktop".
