If my Acer Laptop came with Windows Vista, can I format my hard drive and install Windows XP?

Would I also have to get the drivers for my computer also? If so, where would I find them? Thanks for the help.

You would need to find WORKING drivers for all your devices, which is a lot harder then it sounds. I recommend sticking with Vista.

Yes, you can reformat the drive. If you got Vista Ultimate, it comes with a free "upgrade" to XP Pro.

You'll need to download the drivers for your devices online, probably from the manufacturer's website. You need your ethernet driver especially, since when you reinstall you can't get internet until you install the driver.

Sure. You start by formatting. This turns your new, functional, current system into a stone. Next, you spend the next week wishing you hadn't as you try to find the 17 bazillion drivers, support utilities and other files you need to get XP to run on your Vista hardware. Good luck with that.

The mfr might (just might) have system build disks for XP.
