Why does my laptop charger get so hot?

lt isnt the part going into the comp. it is the box conneting the 2 parts of the charger. i cant imagine it getting this hot as being a good thing...

Keep in mind that there is a fair amount of electricity passing through the charger at any given moment. Physics dictates that it will build up a fair amount of heat. Don't worry about it - it's normal. Just keep it away from anything highly flammable. =)

mine gets really hot aswell. it's normal.

Why is because it's transforming higher voltages into lower voltages and the side product of this process is heat. Generally cheaper more inefficient transformers end up pulling more wattage from your power and hence create more heat.

It's nothing to worry about though. Just try and make sure of the transformer is getting really hot make sure it's not covered while in operation and you should be fine.

Chargers work pretty hard. The "box" is the electronics that converts household current to the low voltage (high current) that's used by the system. Make sure you don't put anything on it or near it. I put my hotter supplies on a metal spacer so they can get air on all sides.

I would also make sure it's the right power supply for the system. They can get mixed up or replaced with a cheaper (smaller) type. Check the mfr for the size and wattage of the supply and the system. The supply should be greater than or (at least = to ) the wattage demand required by the system.

Power supplies also get hot when the line voltage is out of range--too high or low. It takes more energy to correct the voltage...

yea, mine gets hot too.

there is current of electricity going through and the box uses lots of power si it is normal.dont over react.
