Why do laptops mostly use low RPM hardrives??

Why dont they make battery life longer?????

Because they are cheaper and they can sell more laptops that way.

Personally I paid extra for my high speed drive. Dumb person on the phone said it makes no difference to the speed of the computer. Tried to explain to them about data access times but I don't think they got it.

To save battery life basicly....

it takes alot of power to spin them drives and a lower speed is always more efficient.....

to save power a faster one wont last 10 minutes with the batery makes batery last longer uses less power

Low RPM gives low power consumption which gives longer battery life.

cause its physically smaller, and it generates less heat, and draws less power, which is two things they try to keep down as far as laptops go

Because they use much less battery power.

it can save power, extending the battery time

probly because higher rpm hardrives consume more power. duh

Lower RPM hard drives do use less power, as almost everyone here says, and that is important in laptops.

There is another reason for using a low-RPM hard drive. They typically run cooler, which means that you don't need higher-powered fans to cool the machine. Laptops often have a problem with heat, and heat can shorten the lifespan of the computer. Even more heat can cause the machine to simply shut itself down. So, they want devices that run cooler, and in hard drives, that typically means lower RPMs.

this site will give you a sony vaio laptop just for completing some quick online tasks! really recommend it, especially if you're broke but really want/need a laptop (like me).

a battery can only hold so much juce for a given size. i could make a laptop battery that could last a week, but you'd need a 3/4 ton pickup to lug it around.
