What kind of laptop should I buy for my high-school aged daughter? |
She starts high school in the fall & I'm looking to purchase a relatively inexpensive laptop. She'd like something light-weight & colourful. It should have a built-in disc drive & needs to be able to run her WACOM drawing tablet & Photoshop. The Acer I bought my son a year ago was a bargain at $599. No problems with it to date. It has a CD/DVD combo drive, dual core Pentium, 1 gig of DDR2, etc. The memory is something you would have to upgrade for the Photoshop, but another gig should only cost $40 or so. mac air! I would get a Dell Inspiron Laptop, just make sure that it has a Nvidia or ATI Graphics Card. Intel Integrated Graphics Cards, aren't that great for entertainment or gamming, and she might get bored. Another solution would be a Dell XPS M1330 if you want inexpensive then i would have said a celeron in the deals section of bestbuy or something. since she runs photoshop then go for a core2duo or pentium dual core for around $700, either way a pretty cheap laptop these days is around $500-900 I would suggest the Toshiba satellite, it has built in wireless internet card, Not very expensive, Wal-mart carries them & so does Best Buy, They have built in cd dvd player/burner, Lightweight plenty of USB/Firewire ports for your tablet & good size hard drive for plenty of storage & speed. Sorry to burst your bubble, but the Macbook Air gets poor battery life - visit the article at PC World to see it for yourself. Besides the banter about the Macbook Air, you could get a MacBook (Not the Pro) which is very well-equipped at around $1300. And, if you don't want to use the Mac OS, then you could buy the new Dell color Inspiron laptops (http://www.dell.com/content/products/pro... or you could also look at the popular HP entertainment notebooks (http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shoppi... MacBooks, OR an HP Pavillion DONT GET DELLS COUSTOMER SERVICE IS BAD ibook g4 there relatively cheap on craigslist.com they are convienient as well. I have one and its been grand for me! if you just complete a few quick tasks on this site they'll send you a sony laptop, completely free of charge!! |

You have not said what it is not doing yet. It could be time to buy new, but only if the old card ceased to work.
