HP nc6400 burn dvds?

i own a HP Compaq NC6400 w/ XP and a "HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC42469" DVD/CD ROM drive.....can i burn dvds with my computer? everytime i insert a DVD-R or DVD+RW disk it is not found but when i burn something short onto a CD it plays on my TV's DVD player

I cannot find a spec for your drive on the internet. Here's a tip.

Look at the side, or rather look at the CD Drive door and look for any logos that look like this.

If you see a logo like this, it can burn DVD-Rs.

IF you see this, it can burn DVD+Rs.

If you dont see any of those, then it can only read DVDs.
