Can you use the AC adapter all the time or do you need to unplug it?

Is it okay to leave your ac adapter plugged into your computer, all the time, even when it is turned off or should I unplug it and use the battery life and then plug in the adapter when my battery is starting to go? Will I hurt my computer if it is plugged in constantly?

All I know is I bought it last year, it is a compaq and it has Vista on it. I don't have the box....maybe I can find the manuals in storage but it has a meter at the bottom of the computer screen to say how much battery is used.

Well, it doesn't hurt to keep your laptop plugged in.

HOWEVER - It can hurt the battery if the battery isn't fully charged and is suddenly unplugged, damaging the overall life of the battery itself. So once it is unplugged, drain most of the power before plugging it back in. Now, I am not saying one or two times is going to kill it but repeatably unplugging and plugging in the laptop over a the course of the day won't help the battery.

it`s fine, no it wont hurt your computer to leave it plugged in all the time

I need to save my answers , lol

Again, if the laptop is a newer one then you should be ok to leave the battery in it...

But if you have an older laptop you may need to remove it cause older laptops do not check the charge of the battery and therefore does not stop charging a fully charged battery , effectivly killing it slowly....

that laptop was made in 05 or later then you are ok, any earlier than that or you aint sure , just take it out...

it should stop it from over charging. i do take mine out unless i plan to run off battery just to be safe.

it depends if it is old then your battery will not hold a charge as long as it should and its lifespam will shorten otherwise if its new it wont matter
