Do i have to use the same hard drive model for my computer as the one that was installed when i got it? |
my computer's hard drive is trashed and i was wondering is i have to use the dell inspiron 6000 series harddrive or can i use a different one like ones thats not a dell or is a dell but not an inspiron or is a dell inspiron but different model? you can get every brand and model as long it's of the same type/interface. You can use an external hard drive? They're all pretty much compatable with any computer. i think u have to use the same. Nah, you can use anything, providing it has the same connector. You should be able to use any "make, model, and size" of hard drive that you wish. Your only concern is weather the drive is PATA or SATA. To determine this, if the hard drive connection cable is about 2 inches wide and flat, then it's a PATA. If the connection cable is small, about 3/8 of an inch wide, then it is a SATA. Just your typical 2.5 inch ATA/100 hard drive This is America! You can use any hard drive you want - as long as it's the same physical size and interface (ATA or SATA). You can even install a larger capacity hard drive than the one that came with the computer. I love this country. |
