Is this laptop good for a soon to be college student?

That is a very high class laptop. You just need one software program for school. Having Vista, get Microsoft Office Student 2007. Great for college. You could fill that computer up and it will never slow down. Nice choice.

That is a very good laptop but I would switch from Vista back to XP.

That's way better than sufficient. You could use a Windows 95 laptop from 1997 and still have a good enough laptop!

For college, that is a very, very good computer.
If you can afford it (it looks REALLY pricey), definitely go for it.

Honestly, its way to good. Your college kid will use this machine for 3 things. Porn, video games, and school. In that order.

Keep it for yourself, buy him a very basic 500 dollar laptop that is geared towards School and organzation. he will have plenty of distractions as it is. He doesn't need a super expensive laptop to monopolize his time

It is very good even if you are planning to use extensive graphics.

If your going to college you should see about a backup flash drive for your documents in case of a problem. If you wanted to you could have up to 4gigabytes of ram. I would also see about getting some type of replacement plan.
