When u have a labtop and u close it, what do u do to make it still go on all day?

Go into control panel and locate Power Settings.

It should have the options there.
(That is where they were for my laptop!)

Open it

I believe what it is is when you close the laptop, you send it into something called hybernate mode, which keeps the laptop running, but doesn't require as much power to be used to do so. It doesn't need as much power because the programs are not running, your screen is off, etc.

nothing it just stays on

Go to your control panel and change the option on what the laptop does when you close the lid to "Nothing"

Right click on the desktop, go to properties, screen saver tab at the top, then click "power" button. This brings up the the power options. You can configure it to not hibernate or shut down when the lid is closed.

Try changing the power setting in your control panel. There you can set the laptop for that function.

Assuming you are running MS OS (some Windows flavor), In the power management console (access via control panel). You can select what action is performed when you close the lid.
It is usually, "Hibernate" or "Stand By" or "Shut down". If you want the OS to be running and doing useful tasks even after closing the lid (may not be a good idea. If you close the lid and put it in a bag, your laptop with get fried due to lack of cooling or the battery might run out), select the "Do nothing" option.
I suggest "Stand By" (consumes very little power when closed) mode so that it comes up fast when you open it or "Hibernate" to really save power. "Shut down" is not such a good setting for laptops! You can always manually shut down before closing the lid...

I do the same, but with games they jam when you start them again by opening the lid. Just plug in you power cord and it should run for weeks on end without you even in the country

go to 'control panel - power option' then choose 'no action' for 'when i close the lid'. but i recommend not doing this as keyboard marks will soon stain your lcd due to heat generated from it.

well if your are running the vista OS you will need to go to the control panel then power options then your left hand side will be a blue column and the link saying choose what happens when i close my lid
