Google ranking, Pagerank. And link voting.?

Pagerank says it gives more weight to links from site that themslves have lots of links. So if I say link my website to my ebay page or to a yahoo answers page or web forums do I gain the benifits of their having many sites linking to them.
What other ways are there of increasng rankings.

You're on the right track. Links that point to your site from sites that are more popular will increase the popularity and perhaps ranking of your site.

Overall, there are hundreds of factors that determine how a website ranks in search engines. There have been lots of studies on this subject. One of my favorites was compiled by a search engine optimization company called SEOmoz.

I believe incoming links are the best way to increase your websites rankings, but first you need unique content that is interesting and can not be found anywhere else on the web.
