Are meta tags important?

i have just create my first website and i have a bit of an idea of what meta tags are. but are they important i mean i have 60+ page website do i have to insert meta tags to every page. if so is there software or a website which i can paste an article and it creates the meta tags automatically or is this just wishful thinking lol. another question if i have quality content but no meta tags can i still get on google's first page rank

Meta tags are not required, but they are helpful for GG when indexing content. You do not need all the META tags, just description - that is the most helpful.

You can rank #1 without the tags. The page content is the most important part and will appear in the summary in search results.

If you have spent the time writing 60 pages of good content, you deserve to have all bases covered for SEO - just take a moment and write a sentence summarizing the page and use this as the description.
