"Backward Links" on Google to my website is not correct...?

When I look at the "Backward Links" to my website there are only a few results. However, I know that there are more links to my website that are not being registered. These links have been set up for months and I have tested them and they work fine. Is there any reason why they would not be recognised?

Yes, there is a reason. Google does not disclose all the back links to your website while using the link: command. The reason is largely unknown, but it is likely that a complete link profile would help people game the system.

There are a few ways to get a better list.

1. Use Yahoo's Site Explorer. Search your domain with the link: command at Yahoo for a larger list of links to your site.

2. Sign up for Google Webmaster tools. Once you have verified ownership of your sites Google will give you a larger list, but it still won't be complete.

3. Try a third party tool. Search the web for "back link tool" and check out some tools that people have made that will help you find links to your site.
