What is the difference between Google Video and Youtube? Why are they offering the same thing?

Yes they are offering the same thing.

Google video used to compete with YouTube, but as you are probably aware, Google acquired YouTube.

So now both Google Video and YouTube are owned by Google.

So, you are probably asking - why have two web sites doing the same thing when you only need one.

Well, they both have their own different individual strengths and that is one reason why Google have said that they want to keep them seperate.

YouTube was a successful web site in it's own right before Google came along, so why change anything there. YouTube's team of developers and it's founders still run YouTube and basically - if it ain't broke, why try to fix it.

YouTube main strength is that it is a content provider and has relationships with professional content production outfits.

Google wants to keep YouTube as a subsidiary of Google but offer support to it in terms of creating revenue through already existing Google services such as Google Adsense or Google Adwords - and you can already see that happening.

Google Video has it's own strengths, primarily, Google is a search provider, a search engine - so Google want to keep it as a way for people to search for information and of course some of that information is going to be in the form of video.

So in essence, if you look closely, both Google and YouTube are very different.

Google Video and You Tube are video sharing websites, Google purchased You Tube back in 2006-07 i beleive thats why on google video you may find You Tube Videos.

Google is a more broad search over the entire internet and YouTube is just ones downloaded from YouTube users.

there is only a difference is the name of the host. One is Google, another is Youtube. Both support uploading videos

Youtube offers many various videos.
Google videos are very slow compare when downloading it.
