How did google (gmail) get my full name??!!?

I set up a gmail account in order to find a new home for my dog on craig's list. I am kinda paranoid about giving out too much information on line to strangers so I decided to create a new email so that craig's list users would have my everyday one (worried about spam and scams). Anyway, when I signed up with gmail (never had an account with them), I used a completely fictitious name. For a few days my fake name was showing in emails I sent from the account. However, I checked the other day and now my REAL first and last name is being used. It's even listed under the account information section! What is going on? I'm glad I caught it early because now it lists my first and last name when I send emails instead of the fake one I had made!
