Why isn't facebook owned by Harvard?

If the website started as a way to connect Harvard students and was created by students probably using school resources then how is it that they do not have a stake in the multi billion dollar internet revolution?

From the legal standpoint, it would be hard for even the administrative staff at Harvard U to prove that Mark Zuckerberg actually did use their resources to create his masterpiece. Mark could have been using the resources of another internet service provider that he paid for all that matters.

If Mark had been employed by Harvard U in any capacity, they probably would have had him sign an employment contract. These kinds of contracts usually include a provision that states that their employees who develop a patent-able software or website using university resources and/or information from other university-own projects must relenquish all rights to such to the university. Only in this case would Harvard U be able to stake a claim to his "invention."

Fortunately, he (like most other college students) was very resourceful, prudent, and insightful enough to not use university resources to create his site.

I would assume that it wasn't Harvard funded. Most of the people who go to Harvard are pretty well off. I'm sure the guy who started it used his families resources and it was his idea.. I suppose the college really didn't have much to do with it besides having a student to start it to connect the students.

But then again, this is just my opinion..lol

It's created by Mark Zuckerberg, not any Harvard project.

Similar to the reason why Google isn't owned by Stanford.
