Can you please explain what is DNS and DHCP and what is the difference?

DNS translates host names to IP address. When you type in www.yahoo.com into your browser, your computer's DNS client contacts it's DNS server and asks what IP address www.yahoo.com is on.

DHCP servers assign IP addresses and other info to DHCP clients. In other words, if your computer does not have a static IP, it will look for a DHCP server on the local subnet - if the DHCP server has addresses to assign, it will issue a leased IP to your computer. DHCP servers can also assign gateway, DNS servers, and a slew of other info if configured to do so.

DHCP is the service that supplies IP addresses and IP configuration. Without it, computers would not automatically have their IP address, gateway, and DNS info.

DNS is the service that translates name to IP addresses, so that the target node can be found. Eg, When a computer is looking for www.yahoo.com, the DNS server translates that to the IP addrees for www.yahoo.com (69.147.114.210).

On a network computers are identified with an IP address...

DNS relates that address with the Domain Name
so lets say yahoo is 205.45.67.54 insted of typing http://205.45.67.54 in your browser you can type in yahoo.com

On a network addresses are set either manually or automaitcly using DHCP. DHCP is a seervice that usually runs on a server in the network and is used to had out addresses to devices on a network .
